A man of the match performance from Wayne Blows saw Town's second string return to winning ways in emphatic fashion at a very boggy Gaunts Way.
The Baldock forward scored four and made two as the Reserves hit nine past bottom-of-the-table Sandridge Rovers, despite having only scored sixteen goals in eleven league outings prior to this demolition.
The management team returned to a more familiar 4-4-2 formation with Mark Shelley replacing Rhett Monahan at the back, Jake Mongston came in for Adam Furness whilst Darren Matussa deputised in goal with none of the Reserves three signed on stoppers available.
Sean Ennis' men got off to the best possible start when they took the lead inside the opening minute. From the kick off, the ball was worked down the left hand side to Jake Mongston and his teasing cross was turned into his own net by a home defender under pressure from Sam Crow.
It was soon 2-0 when Mark Shelley was upended on the right hand side to earn his side a free kick. Lee Rusbridge swept in a delightful ball and as Blows helped the ball on, Mongston timed his run to perfection to launch past the keeper from 12 yards.
Lewis Littlechild could and should have made it three when Town once again exposed the visitors high backline. The nippy forward steamed through only to be denied twice by the already over-worked Rovers custodian.
After dominating the opening proceedings, it was against the run of play that Sandridge got themselves back into the game. Some loose attacking play by Littlechild and Mongston allowed Rovers to counter attack and as the visiting forward went through Matussa brought him down. Referee Marcel Mester had little hesitation in pointing to the spot. Paul Chester stepped up and despite Matussa getting a hand to it, the ball went in.
Town bounced back well though to restore their advantage within seconds. Blows took the ball with his back to goal before releasing Sam Crow inside the full back and Crow crashed home from a tight angle.
Blows then got in on the goalscoring act. With his back to goal, his lay off was given away, but Rovers then passed the ball straight to Rusbridge who clinically slid Blows in one-on-one and he made no mistake.
In the second half it was more one way traffic. Blows was once again provider. His attempted pass to Crow appeared to be being headed off by a defender, but he made a hash of it and Crow gratefully accepted the invitation to run in unopposed and slide past the keeper with great aplomb.
Baldock used their comfortable position to get subs Adam Furness and new signing from Fairlands Dave Stevens on to the field and it wasn't long before Blows was brought down in the box and converted the spot kick to make it 6-1. Blows then completed his first hat-trick in Baldock colours when Karl Beadsworth played in Rusbridge and his little clip through to Blows allowed him to finish with ease.
The hard working Chester in the Rovers midfield reduced the arrears when he volleyed home from the edge of the box after Furness had been harshly booked for a soft foul on the Baldock right.
Town would have the last laugh though as Mongston drove home after a Rusbridge corner was glanced on by Lee Buck and then Blows rounded off proceedings with his fourth of the afternoon when he chested home an inviting low cross from Stevens.
Ennis and his team will be delighted to have got some goals on the board and being goal-shy for much of the season. Blows was obviously the stand out performance of the day, but the goals of Crow and Mongston were reward for their fine performances on the flanks and Dave Stevens' lively opening to his Town career was also a big positive.
